AJAPOPFILMS is not only an up-and-coming video outlet for really great music videos and photos for The Hundred Days, Fans of Jimmy Century, and The Glowing Stars, but founder Angelo Ibanez is also my best friend.

He's spent a year on this music video for our friends Seeking Empire and it premiered today. Please take a few minutes to check it out and rate it. It takes a lot to create something you believe in and put it out there for the world. Not everyone can do it.

Proud of you, Angelo! <3

A huge news day for us!

In late August, we were interviewed by our two local publications, San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Bay Guardian. Today, they're both published and in print! But don't worry, they're also online. Check them out at the links below! If you're in the area, be sure to grab a copy!

"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen is one of my favorite songs of all time, and it was such a blast covering it with Matt Payne for The Glowing Stars. We played this song since our first show with Anamanaguchi and Peelander-Z at the DNA Lounge on April 7, 2011, and we're playing it one last time at our next show at the Japantown Peace Plaza in San Francisco on September 4.

Not sure what song we'll cover next, but I'll sure miss playing this one! Look out for a free mp3 download of our cover around September 4!

theglowingstars:

It takes a lot of effort for us to put together a good cover, and we enjoyed sharing our cover of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" on our Quest Coast tour (and recording it for our special edition release of Anything Past That).

We're planning on retiring this particular cover after we play it at the Convergence Festival in Japantown on September 4, so for a very limited time (ONE DAY!) we'll be making the recording a FREE DOWNLOAD on our Bandcamp page! Be sure to join our mailing list (on the right sidebar) and follow us onTwitter and Facebook to get the link! We'll release it closer to Convergence.

I miss this. Here's a video of the song we opened with at the first PulsewaveSF at DNA Lounge on July 7, 2011. We got to have a really awesome opening video by AJAPOPFILMS play before we got on stage. It highlighted the shows of our Quest Coast Tour. After the video played, we started our set with "Epilogue."

I've taken a break from music stuff for a short while...

I've taken a break from music stuff for a short while since The Glowing Stars is on hiatus as Matt's been in baby mode — his baby is due pretty much any day now! While that's on hold, I have some plans to do some stuff with crashfaster, like performing with him at PAX Prime this year in Seattle. I'm also recording some vocals for Wizwars. I'm really happy to be working with all of my friends!

I guess I forgot to plug in here that The Glowing Stars debut EP dropped earlier this month, right before we went on hiatus. It's titled Anything Past That, and has five tracks of Game Boy goodness and rock & roll. Please check it out! You can stream it for free or download it for five bucks on Bandcamp.

I'm really thankful that crashfaster recorded and mixed this EP, and Hans Dekline mastered it. Dekline has also mastered records for Snoop Dogg and Lisa Loeb. Someday I think I'll write a protected post about all the inside jokes and secrets of Anything Past That, but I'll save that for another time. Considering the entire EP is about one person, there are a lot of little things about it that are all related, including the EP art, and the labels that were on our limited edition physical releases.

Side note, those who have ordered the limited edition EPs, please be patient. People have been receiving them at different times. Some last week, some this week, and I expect more next week. But if you have any concerns, e-mail theglowingstarsband [@] gmail [.] com!

Oh right, so video game stuff. Since the band stuff is on hold, I've been adjusting to my new position as Associate Editor of @GAMER Magazine, and it's been a fun ride so far. I've taken over their podcast and have hosted the last three episodes, including Episode #21, which just went live today. This week's episode also has Jillian Lungaro and GamesRadar's Chris Antista, and we talk about Comic-Con 2011 and Catherine.

Speaking of Catherine, that was my first review for @GAMER Magazine as an official employee. Yay! It'll be in the September 2011 issue. But the game came out this week, and it's so amazeballs. Really, buy it. Or listen to the podcast first, and then buy it.

Gotta say, huge fan. I support the glowing stars and all its amazing chip tune brilliance. When's the next time youre going to be on talkradar?

Thanks! And no clue, really. It all depends on the TalkRadar hosts.

Radiation City National Tour Dates Announced

These guys have to be my favorite band at the moment. I first saw the four-piece play in Alameda, CA at Autobody Fine Art with other bands I love - Foxtails Brigade, Whiskerman, and Ladies & Gentlemen (who is really just Dustin Smurthwaite - we had him play trombone during The Glowing Stars' set at PulsewaveSF) - and their music is incredibly dreamy. Matt Payne even joined them during the last two songs of their set playing trombone alongside Smurthwaite, and Andrew Wilke on trumpet. Their debut album, The Hands That Take You, also has a bit of Payne on it recording trombone for their song "The Color of Industry."

And that's not to say that this band is my favorite at the moment because of all these weird connections I have with them. Their mix of warm analog sounds, soulful harmonies, and Lizzy Ellison's mesmerizing vocals has had me listening to their album over and over and over.

So if you see that they're in your area, you should really check them out. Here are the dates they posted. I'm definitely seeing them at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco in September:

I love these guys! I also miss them. Here's a video by my best friend AJAPOPFILMS of Awkward Terrible at last week's PulsewaveSF. So much love in this.

I also interviewed them for The @Gamer Podcast this week. Oh yeah, I'm so far behind on this blog that I forgot to mention that I'm no longer with GamesRadar.com. Now I'm Associate Editor of @Gamer Magazine. The crew is way awesome so far, but I already knew that going in. ;)

Back from tour. A LOT has happened since Maker Faire 2011 and now, I've just been too busy to update this thing. So you'll probably see random updates in no particular order throughout the week. :)

Here's a video by AJAPOPFILMS on the Portland, OR portion of our Quest Coast Tour with crashfaster.
